Our Lady of Guadalupe — Tepeyac, 1531. Nine graphic T-shirts inspired by the Guadalupe tradition and reimagined through bold Chicano visual language.

According to Catholic tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin at Tepeyac Hill near present-day Mexico City in December 1531 and asked that a chapel be built there. When Bishop Juan de Zumárraga asked for a sign, Juan Diego gathered flowers from the hill on 12 December and carried them in his tilma.

The tradition recounts that, when he opened the tilma before the bishop, an image of the Virgin appeared on the fabric. This collection connects that enduring devotional story with roses, tattoo-inspired linework, barrio symbolism, Indigenous references and expressions of strength, dignity and cultural pride.
